McCain's Cabinet -- A Marketing Strategy

As the campaign rolls along and the dog days of summer begin, the daily and weekly battle to win the 24 hours news cycle has begun. The candidates and their surrogates are working hard to gain points with the media and the public. Politics are about momentum and a little bit of luck. One thing McCain needs to do is to electrify his party. He can not win without his party and their organization, donations and enthusiasm. Yes, he needs independents, but more than that he needs to rally his party behind him to sweep to victory in November.

One idea that would electrify his party and garner tremendous media exposure would be for McCain to announce his Vice-Presidential nominee and Cabinet to the American public. McCain's ability to convince high-profile Republicans to serve with him would bring tremendous energy and credibility to his campaign.

Imagine if a few days before the Democratic National convention if McCain would call a press conference surrounded at the podium by Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Mike Huckabee, Arnold Schwarznegger, Rudy Giuliani, Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Kenneth Blackwell, Norman Schwarzkoph, John Thune, Lisa Murkowski, Louis Freeh, Phil Gramm, Robert Gates, Carly Fiorina and other members of his campaign team and national Republican leaders.

During the press conference McCain could give a rousing speech presenting his Vice-Presidential nominee and his Cabinet to the American people. It would be a historic an electrifying moment that would bring the energy and purpose back to the GOP.

Here is a list of the recommended team...

Vice-President
Mitt Romney

A proven executive and leader in the public and private sector. Fully-vetted and able to deliver Michigan and buttress McCain's support in the west. A tremendous fundraiser and friend to the Republican base. This is going to happen.

Secretary of Health and Human Services
Elizabeth Dole

The former head of the American Red Cross and Senator from North Carolina would be adept at increasing efficiencies in this sprawling bureacracy.

Secretary of Transportation
Mike Huckabee

Who can forget his enthusiasm for rebuilding highway I-95 during the debates. Great communicator, leader and visionary.

Secretary of State
Fred Thompson

In a world of turmoil and increasing diplomatic complications a steady hand is needed to assure our interests our protected throughout the world. He would be a great face for America throughout the world. A realist who would not underestimate our potential enemies.

Secretary of Veteran Affairs
Ret. General Norman Schwarzkoph

General Schwarzkoph is an American hero and a proven leader of our armed forces. Few people could bring as much credibility and trust to this role.

Department of the Interior
Lisa Murkowski

The Republican Senator from Alaska would be an excellent steward of our land and national parks.

Department of Defense
Robert Gates

He has brought tremendous dignity and administrative competence to the role. He should be retained.

Treasury Secretary
Phil Gramm

A free-market advocate and long-time friend and supporter of McCain would be an excellent choice for the Treasury department.

Secretary of Education

Michael Steele is smart, articulate and is an experienced leader and educator. He would be a perfect fit for the department and could hopefully make some alterations to No Child Left Behind so that some of the teachers, parents and students of America would actually support the bill.

Commerce Secretary
Arnold Schwarznegger

If anyone can bring some new energy and enthusiasm into the Commerce department it is the "Governator". If the Presidential succession line ever reached him he would be passed over, but he would be tremendous on the campaign trial and is the perfect antidote to rock star Barack Obama.

Secretary of Labor
Kay Bailey Hutchison

The Labor department led by Elaine Chao is the only cabinet position that has not turned over during the Bush White House. Hutchison is a competent and well-liked Senator who could quickly pickup where Chao left off.

Energy Secretary
Carly Fiorina

At first glance this one could seem like a stretch, but Fiorina would be a great fit. She is a flashy and dynamic leader and would be able to sweep away the cobwebs from a department and policy that is not serving the interests of the American people. Fiorina will shake it up, and if anyone can lead McCain's nuclear power initiative it would be a marketing genius like Fiorina.

Department of Agriculture
John Thune

Thune is a rising star in the party and this pick would give him much needed national exposure and also place a very talented leader at the head of the Department.

Department of Housing and Urban Development

Kenneth Blackwell

Blackwell has already served in the department during his career and his background and previous experience would make him a good match for the position.

Department of Justice

Louis Freeh
Freeh is a patriot and his background as a U.S. Attorney, Federal Judge and FBI Director would bring much needed credibility and respect to the position.

Department of Homeland Security

Rudy Giuliani

His record and experience speak for themselves. He is the best suited candidate for the position. He is also a Patriot and distinguished public servant.

I especially like your Vice Presidential pick.

I think that McCain should announce his Vice-Presidential nominee and Cabinet to the American public, too.

McCain-Romney 2008!

Brilliant idea, but McCain should only announce his VP and cabinet after the Democratic Convention.

Since the Cabinet is where good politicians go to die, if Mike Huckabee is smart--which he is--he will say "Thanks for the honor, but I think I'll pass."

Since it appears the Republicans have now broken the party beyond repair, and smart money has them loosing big in November, I would much rather have Mike Huckabee stored somewhere very public--say a major TV network--until 2012.

As for me, without Huckabee on the ticket I'm planning to stay home.

Staying home is voting for Obama.

I could never sleep again knowning I didn't try to keep him from screwing up America. From Gay marriage, to unrestricted Ammnesty for Illegals, to mega Taxes, to insanely Liberal judges, the damage will be immense.

Staying home is frankly, criminal, this time around. At least I can say I tried to save America rather than I watched her die.

why worry about whom MCain pick as running mate. There is no rock star like Obama, Arnie is the answer, but Colin Powell would be. Seems to me that another man of Powell statue would be the real choice. But then again Mcain problem goes beyond his running mate or cabinet. His age, flip on everything and the fact the running against the best man since FDR or JFK. And remember the last time a Senator fro Arizona ran for president, he was never heard from again. History has a way of repeating itself. Keeping dreaming fellows, that's all Mcain is.

Here's the only way McCain is going to energize me:

1) Pick a conservative running mate.

2) Bow out of the presidential race due to "health concerns."

Other than that... I'm voting Obama!

Understand. Both Obama and McCain would continue to "lead" our once great nation down the path of decline. Our only hope is that as with the Carter years, an Obama term with a Democratic Congress would so screw things up and alienate the American People that by 2012 a revitalized and again genuinely Reaganite GOP would return to power and do a full 180-degree turn.

It's not that McCain's "bad" on a few issues. It's not that one on one he's still the "better choice" as opposed to Obama. What conservatives need to understand is that for the next few years we're screwed no matter what and with McCain at the helm... he'll use his powers to strengthen the RINO establishment (while retarding the progress towards GOP power by true Republican elected insurgents) while dragging what's left of the GOP's reputation down with him as he tries to "cooperate" with the Dems.

For God's sake... have some vision. We're fighting for 2010 and 2012. A victory by McCain in 2008 will mean LONG TERM disaster down the road.

What about the supreme court? Why would you risk two or three more liberal justices? McCain is a Republican, 83% lifetime conservative rating. A vote for Obama as a destruction strategy is baffling. I hope you are lone in your thinking.
